The case of a 26-year-old man from Jorhat district in Assam shows how treatment, counselling and rehabilitation support through the scheme can lead to meaningful recovery and employment.
How the support worked
The individual received assistance starting 31 August 2025 through the District De-Addiction Centre (DDAC) in Jorhat, which operates under COSEHDA as part of NAPDDR. The support included a heavily subsidised treatment plan, counselling services and rehabilitation help designed to address substance dependency.
Beyond medical treatment, the centre provided:

The individual had begun using substances at age 11 following his father’s death and discontinuation of schooling. Family circumstances and lack of emotional support during childhood were contributing factors to his dependency.
