The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, through the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), has partnered with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) to set up computer laboratories and smart classrooms in 29 Eklavya Model Residential Schools across Rajasthan. The agreement, signed in September 2026, will bring digital learning facilities to more than 10,000 tribal students every year.
What is being set up and where
The project covers 29 schools spread across 11 districts of Rajasthan: Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Karauli, Pratapgarh, Sawai Madhopur, Sirohi, Tonk and Udaipur. These schools serve students from Class VI to XII, most of whom are first-generation digital learners. At full capacity, the schools can hold up to 13,920 students, with equal numbers of boys and girls.
Each school will receive four smart classrooms with 86-inch interactive flat panels, educational software, and audio-visual equipment such as speakers and webcams. Every school will also have a fully networked computer laboratory with desktop computers, backup power systems, structured wiring, a multi-function printer, air-conditioning, and safety features. The schools will get 10 tablets per institution loaded with competitive exam preparation material, plus internet connectivity with a one-year subscription included.
The total project budget is 16 crore rupees, approved by the HPCL Board. Work is expected to finish within six months from the signing date.
