The NITI Aayog internship is an unpaid attachment to the government’s policy think tank at its New Delhi headquarters. Interns are assigned to one of the verticals or divisions, which cover everything from agriculture and health to data management and infrastructure, and they typically contribute to background research, data work and note preparation for the vertical they sit with.

The entry bar is academic rather than competitive. Undergraduates need a strong class twelve result and must have finished their second year, while postgraduates and research scholars are assessed on their graduation marks. The internship runs for a minimum of six weeks and no more than six months. Applications open only in the first ten days of each month for a start date some months later, and interns must arrange their own laptop and accommodation. A certificate is issued only if attendance crosses the required threshold.

Who is eligible

  • Recent graduates awaiting admission to higher studies with 70 percent or more cumulative marks, whose results were declared not more than six months before the desired start date
