CAQM conducts special inspection of industries in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh; 16 of 22 units inspected found non-compliant, 12 Show Cause Notices issued

The Commission for Air Quality Management in NCR and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, conducted a special inspection of industrial units in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh on 15 September 2026. Out of 22 factories visited, 16 were found violating pollution control rules, and 12 notices requiring them to explain their non-compliance have been issued.

The inspection was carried out by seven Flying Squads working alongside the District Administration across six industrial areas in Hapur, including locations along Masuri-Gulawati Road, Pilkhuwa, Railway Road, and several others.

The findings

Of the 22 units inspected, only 6 met environmental standards. The violations found were varied and serious:

  • Visible smoke and inadequate pollution control devices
  • Failure to install or improper functioning of online emission monitoring systems
  • Faulty wet scrubber systems and leaking pollution control equipment
  • Non-compliance of diesel generators with rules, including incorrect capacity and fuel details
  • Missing stack emission reports and stacks not meeting emission guidelines
  • Unauthorised use of wood-fired furnaces with hazardous waste
  • Non-installation of stack monitoring systems

Two suspected illegal units denied inspection teams entry. The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board sealed two units for using a wood-fired furnace with hazardous sludge and for operating without proper conformance to rules.

What this means for you

If you live or work near Hapur’s industrial areas, this action means stricter enforcement of pollution controls is underway. Factories violating air quality rules face legal consequences and may be sealed. The 12 notices issued require those units to respond to charges and undertake corrective measures, which should reduce local industrial pollution over time. CAQM has made clear that all industries must comply with environmental standards or face action under environmental laws.
