The Ministry of Defence’s Department of Defence has stepped up its cleanliness and workplace improvement work under the Swachhata Abhiyan framework. Between November 2025 and August 2026, the department carried out over 2,200 cleanliness drives across its various offices. These efforts follow on from a special campaign held in October 2025.
What was accomplished
The Department of Defence conducted 2,229 cleanliness drives across its attached and subordinate offices. Through these initiatives, the department freed up 45,448 square feet of usable space by removing clutter and unused items. The disposal of scrap and other unserviceable materials generated ₹97.07 lakh in revenue.
Multiple organisations under the Department participated in these drives, including:
- Directorate General Defence Estates
- Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services
- Border Roads Organisation
- Controller General of Defence Accounts
- Canteen Stores Department
The cleanliness work was part of sustained efforts to make workplace standards a permanent feature of how the Department functions, rather than a one-time exercise.
