The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced a new feature called ‘OneTag’ on the NHAI Rajmargyatra mobile application. This service allows drivers who use FASTag to switch from one bank or service provider to another without needing to replace the physical tag already attached to their vehicle. The move is designed to give users more control over their toll payment options on national highways.
How OneTag Works
Drivers interested in switching their FASTag issuer can access the Rajmargyatra app and enter their vehicle registration number to check if they are eligible. The current issuer bank will send a six-digit verification code to the driver’s mobile phone. After providing this code, the driver selects a new issuer, completes verification procedures with that issuer, and sets up a digital wallet with them.
Once the switch is complete, the same FASTag ID stays linked to the vehicle registration number. The driver continues using the existing physical tag, but it now works with the new issuer. The previous issuer will close the old wallet and return any remaining balance after necessary deductions.
There is a cooling-off period of six months after portability before a tag can be switched again to another issuer.
The Rajmargyatra app already offers other services for highway users, including FASTag Annual Pass, FASTag Local Pass, and access to the Emergency Helpline 1033.
What This Means for You
If you use FASTag on national highways, you now have the freedom to change your service provider based on better rates, customer service, or other reasons, without the hassle and cost of getting a new physical tag installed on your vehicle. Your existing tag will work immediately with your new provider once you complete the switch through the app. This change could save money for highway users and reduce the environmental cost of manufacturing and distributing replacement tags.
