India’s Semiconductor Ecosystem Attracting Strong Global Participation and Investment Interest: Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced 25 major partnerships and collaborations on the second day of SEMICON India 2026, a semiconductor industry conference being held in New Delhi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the event has drawn nearly 12,000 visitors on the first day and more than 600 exhibitors, including around 300 from abroad, signalling strong international interest in India’s semiconductor sector.

What was announced

The 25 announcements span semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging, chip design, power electronics, materials, logistics and workforce training. Key partnerships include:

  • Tata Electronics partnered with four international companies to strengthen local supply of gases, chemicals, materials and advanced packaging capabilities needed for semiconductor production.
  • L&T Semiconductor Technologies signed four agreements to develop power electronics solutions for renewable energy systems and data centres.
  • The Ministry of Power and POWERGRID will collaborate to develop indigenous Silicon Carbide Power Modules, to be tested at POWERGRID’s 1,000 MW Pusauli project in Bihar.
  • India Semiconductor Mission signed a memorandum with Nippon Express Holdings to improve logistics, warehousing and customs support for the semiconductor supply chain.
  • Multiple educational institutions, including NIELIT and Singapore Polytechnic International, launched programmes to develop skilled workers for semiconductor manufacturing and design.
  • IndieSemiC and C-DAC launched India’s first indigenous System-on-Module called ISC-VEGA-SOM, a processor-based chip module developed by Indian companies.
  • India Deep Tech Alliance reported investments of 263 million US dollars across 56 Indian deep-tech companies.

The Minister also emphasised resource-efficient technologies, highlighting the use of water recycling in semiconductor factories and closed-loop cooling systems in data centres as India’s semiconductor sector expands.
