The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the Ministry of Finance body responsible for indirect taxes and customs operations, has announced Special Campaign 6. Running from 2 October to 31 October 2026, this initiative will involve all CBIC offices and field formations across the country. The campaign aims to improve workplace cleanliness, clear pending administrative matters, and handle electronic waste responsibly.
What the campaign will cover
Special Campaign 6 will focus on four main areas: maintaining cleanliness standards in offices, managing and disposing of physical records efficiently, freeing up office space, and properly handling electronic waste under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022.
The campaign builds on the results achieved during Special Campaign 5.0 earlier this year. In that round, CBIC met all targets it had set. The organisation reviewed 41,055 physical files and removed 23,743 of them from active storage. This freed up 43,009 square feet of office space. CBIC also disposed of 22,728 kg of scrap materials, which included 8,801 kg of electronic waste handled according to environmental rules.
During Special Campaign 5.0, CBIC also safely destroyed approximately 250 kg of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The campaign also involved disposal of about 26 lakh foreign-origin cigarettes and e-cigarettes along with related items.
For Special Campaign 6, CBIC is placing particular emphasis on the proper collection, segregation and disposal of e-waste, continuing the focus from the previous round but with greater intensity.
