Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah visited the newly constructed JGMM Medical College and KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Hubballi, Karnataka. The facility represents a significant expansion of medical education and healthcare capacity in the state. KLE, which has operated for over 110 years, has built this new complex to address growing demand for doctors and hospital beds across the region.
The New Medical Campus
The facility sits on approximately 50 acres of land and cost around ₹700 crore to construct. It spans 20 lakh square feet of built-up space. The medical college will admit 250 MBBS students annually, helping to increase the supply of doctors in Karnataka.
The hospital component contains 1,200 beds in total. Of these, 300 beds are reserved specifically for poor and economically disadvantaged patients, ensuring that the facility serves beyond private patients.
The hospital offers both basic and advanced medical services. Basic specialty departments include General Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Pulmonology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Psychiatry, Dentistry and Physiotherapy. Super-specialty services available include Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Nephrology, Organ Transplantation, Urology, Oncology and Endocrinology.
The complex includes modern diagnostic and emergency infrastructure: 24-hour emergency and trauma care services, a dialysis unit, digital X-ray, high-resolution CT scanning, ultrasonography and modern laboratory facilities.
