The Ministry of Jal Shakti has announced that Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan will open the 9th India International Water Week on 22 September 2026 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The five-day event will bring together water experts, policymakers, researchers and industry leaders from India and abroad to discuss managing water resources in ways that strengthen resilience to climate change.
Event Details and Participation
The water week runs from 22 to 26 September 2026 under the theme “Climate Resilient Water Management.” The Netherlands and Germany will attend as partner countries. Within India, fourteen states have been invited as partner states, alongside six central ministries and departments.
The programme includes ten separate forums covering different aspects of water management: a ministerial plenary, global water leaders’ plenaries, country forums, water leaders’ forums, practitioners’ forums, thematic forums, a startup forum, a youth forum, an industrial forum and side events.
Discussions will focus on seven key areas:
- Fair and equitable water governance
- Working together to use water resources optimally
- Technology and community efforts for water security
- Water’s role in managing climate-related risks
- New ways to finance water infrastructure and modernisation
- Sustainable management of water resources
- Water for people and the planet
An international exhibition will run from 22 to 25 September, showcasing new technologies and solutions for sustainable water management. The Second International WASH Conference will also take place from 22 to 24 September, concentrating on drinking water access, sanitation, hygiene and public health. The week concludes with a valedictory session on 25 September, followed by study tours on 26 September.
