DPIIT launches special campaign to reduce pendency and improve cleanliness across offices.

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry will run Special Campaign 6.0 from October 2nd to 31st, 2026, to cut administrative backlog, improve cleanliness standards and dispose of outdated records across its offices nationwide. The campaign will involve 19 attached, subordinate and autonomous organisations under DPIIT’s control, including field and branch offices spread across the country.

This is the sixth iteration of a government-wide initiative aimed at making offices more efficient and sustainable. DPIIT first prepares the ground during a preparatory phase from September 15th to 30th, 2026, by identifying specific targets, reviewing pending files and planning disposal activities.

Key facts

  • Campaign dates: October 2 to 31, 2026
  • Preparatory phase: September 15 to 30, 2026
  • Organisations covered: 19 attached, subordinate and autonomous bodies under DPIIT
  • In Special Campaign 5.0: 1,572 physical files reviewed; 1,119 files weeded out
  • Office space freed in previous campaign: 11,235 square feet
  • Revenue from scrap disposal in previous campaign: ₹17,69,569

What the campaign will focus on

Special Campaign 6.0 targets eight main areas. Offices will be thoroughly cleaned inside and in surrounding spaces. Staff will identify and dispose of pending references within set timelines. Records will be reviewed and outdated ones destroyed following official retention schedules. Electronic waste will be collected, sorted and handed to authorised agencies for safe disposal. Broken or old furniture, equipment and scrap will be removed. Office space will be reorganised for better use. Workplace appearance, cleanliness and functionality will improve. Finally, the department will establish permanent, environmentally sound practices to maintain these improvements beyond the campaign period.

A particular emphasis will be placed on proper e-waste management. Electronic and electrical equipment no longer needed will be identified, sorted and sent to authorised waste handlers rather than dumped. This protects the environment while freeing up space in government offices.

Lessons from the previous campaign

Special Campaign 5.0, held earlier, showed what such drives can achieve. DPIIT reviewed over 1,500 physical files stored in its offices. Of these, 1,119 were no longer needed and were weeded out following rules on how long different records must be kept. Disposing of these old records and scrap materials released 11,235 square feet of usable office space, equivalent to clearing an entire floor section. The sale of scrap generated ₹17,69,569 in revenue for the government. The department also cleared pending public grievances and appeals from citizens, and identified ways to simplify its own rules and procedures.

Building on this success, Special Campaign 6.0 will place greater weight on making cleanliness permanent, managing records systematically and using office space wisely.

Innovation and sustainability focus

DPIIT will encourage its organisations to develop and share innovative solutions that support circular economy principles, where waste becomes a resource. One example already in practice is the “Waste to Wealth” initiative run by the Indian Rubber Material Research Institute (IRMRI), an autonomous body under DPIIT. This project took discarded rubber scrap and mixed it into concrete used to build a road section. The rubber particles, between 10 and 15 per cent of the concrete mix, improved the road’s strength, flexibility and lifespan compared to regular concrete. Scientific tests verified these benefits. During Special Campaign 6.0, DPIIT will actively promote such innovative practices across its offices and encourage other organisations to adopt them where suitable.

What this means for you

If you work in DPIIT or one of its 19 attached organisations, expect your workplace to be cleaner, better organised and more efficient after October 31st, 2026. Pending requests for information or decisions should be processed faster. If you have filed a public grievance with DPIIT, the campaign’s focus on clearing pendency may help your case move forward. The improved office functionality and reduced clutter will create a better work environment.

Citizens filing applications or grievances with DPIIT may experience improved service delivery as the department becomes leaner and more organised. Government offices that implement similar waste-to-resource projects may reduce costs and environmental impact, benefiting taxpayers over time.

What happens next

The preparatory phase runs from September 15 to 30, 2026. The main campaign runs from October 2 to 31, 2026. DPIIT will ensure that the improvements made during the campaign continue as permanent operating practices in the months and years ahead.
