The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released an update on central government infrastructure projects worth ₹150 crore and above. As of August 2026, the PAIMANA portal is monitoring 1,731 ongoing projects across 17 central ministries and departments with a combined revised cost of ₹33.60 lakh crore. The government has spent ₹16.33 lakh crore so far, representing nearly 49 per cent of the total project cost.

What the data shows
The monitoring reveals that infrastructure spending is progressing steadily. A large portion of projects are clustered at either early stages (0–20 per cent completion) or advanced stages (81–100 per cent completion), indicating a healthy pipeline with both newly launched and nearly finished projects. Physical progress and financial spending broadly move together, though some projects show higher financial spend upfront before physical work accelerates.
Which sectors and ministries lead
Transport and logistics dominates the portfolio, accounting for 1,191 projects or 69 per cent of all projects, with a revised cost of ₹16.05 lakh crore. This includes roads, highways, railways, aviation, urban public transport, shipping and inland waterways. The Energy sector follows with 223 projects totalling ₹10.95 lakh crore, covering oil and gas, electricity generation, transmission, distribution and energy storage.
By ministry, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways leads with 982 projects (57 per cent of total) worth ₹9.52 lakh crore. The Ministry of Railways has 147 projects valued at ₹3.14 lakh crore, while the Ministry of Power is implementing 102 projects costing ₹6.18 lakh crore. Other significant implementers include the Ministry of Coal (122 projects, ₹2.22 lakh crore), Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (117 projects, ₹4.42 lakh crore), and Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (49 projects, ₹3.41 lakh crore).
Recent completions and new additions
In August 2026, several major projects were commissioned, including the 6-lane Kandili-Aluru section of NH-130-CD road (₹1,912.84 crore), landslide mitigation on NH-07 in Uttarakhand (₹216.68 crore), and the Haldia Panagarh Pipeline project (₹1,107 crore). Additionally, 37 new projects were brought under PAIMANA monitoring, with the largest being the WR-ER Inter Regional Network Expansion Scheme (₹6,444 crore) from the Ministry of Power and petroleum sector developments worth over ₹5,000 crore each.
Understanding PAIMANA
PAIMANA-PROJ is the project monitoring interface that tracks real-time progress of major central sector infrastructure schemes. It is supported by PAIMANA-CRIP (Central Repository of Infrastructure Projects), launched in July 2026 as a national central repository. About 80 per cent of project data updates automatically through application programming interfaces (APIs), enabling standardized monitoring across all implementing ministries and supporting data-driven decision-making.
