The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has launched Special Campaign 6, a government-wide initiative to clear administrative backlogs, improve office cleanliness and manage waste disposal. The campaign moves into its active implementation phase from 2nd to 31st October 2026, after completing its preparatory activities from 16th to 30th September 2026.
During the preparatory phase, all central government ministries and departments nominated officers to oversee the campaign in their offices, attached organisations, public sector undertakings and autonomous bodies. What the campaign involves
Special Campaign 6 focuses on four main areas. First, it aims to resolve pending administrative references and cases that have accumulated in government offices. Second, it organises cleanliness drives across all government spaces through Swachhata campaigns. Third, it manages the disposal of electronic waste and obsolete equipment responsibly. Fourth, it improves office record management by weeding out outdated files while preserving historically important documents.
Additionally, the campaign includes plans to enhance office infrastructure and workspace quality. Participating ministries and departments have assessed the scope of work needed in their offices and submitted targets for the preparatory phase through a dedicated web portal.
Who is participating
The campaign involves 84 central government ministries and departments, along with their public sector undertakings, autonomous bodies and field offices across more than 500 locations. Notable participants include the Department of Posts, Department of Financial Services, Department of Defence Production, Department of Military Affairs, Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Mines, Central Board of Direct Taxes and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
Senior officers from these organisations have been designated as nodal officers responsible for coordinating campaign activities within their respective jurisdictions. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances is the nodal department overseeing the entire initiative.
Monitoring and coordination
The campaign progress is tracked through a dedicated portal where all ministries and departments upload their targets and achievements. This allows real-time monitoring of work across the government system. The second coordination meeting held during the preparatory phase was chaired by the Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, with participation from over 800 officials representing the entire span of government organisations.
