The Union Ministry of Ayush has launched two structured certificate courses for traditional medicine professionals, marking a formal step to integrate Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and homeopathy into mainstream clinical practice. Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Shri Prataprao Jadhav inaugurated the second edition of the Indo-UK Health Conclave 2026 in New Delhi on 9 October 2026, where the new training initiative was announced.

The conclave, organised by Marengo Asia Hospitals and BAPIO Training Academy, brings together healthcare professionals and institutions from India and the United Kingdom to discuss integration of traditional and modern medicine systems. The theme is “Bridging Healthcare, Education and Innovation”.

Key facts

  • Two new six-month certificate courses launched for Ayush graduates and postgraduates
  • Certificate in Acute Care and Emergency Support
  • Certificate in Lifestyle Health and Well-Being Counselling and Practice
  • Event: Indo-UK Health Conclave 2026, second edition
  • Date: 9 October 2026
  • Location: New Delhi
  • Organizers: Marengo Asia Hospitals and BAPIO Training Academy
  • Two-day event with participation from India and United Kingdom healthcare professionals

What the new training programmes cover

The Certificate in Acute Care and Emergency Support is designed to equip Ayush professionals with clinical skills needed to handle acute medical situations and provide emergency support. This course addresses a gap in traditional medicine practice where professionals typically focus on chronic disease management and preventive care rather than acute conditions.

The Certificate in Lifestyle Health and Well-Being Counselling and Practice trains practitioners in delivering preventive health education and lifestyle-based wellness interventions. Both courses combine structured classroom teaching with supervised practical training, moving traditional medicine education towards clinical standards used in modern medicine systems.

The ministry’s approach to traditional medicine

Shri Jadhav stated that traditional systems of medicine require backing from scientific research, clinical evidence, quality standards and responsible integration to contribute meaningfully to healthcare. This reflects the government’s position that ancient medicine systems should not operate parallel to modern medicine but should be validated and integrated based on evidence.

The minister noted that preventive healthcare and holistic well-being are emerging priorities for countries worldwide, and traditional systems have potential in these areas when their practices are subjected to scientific scrutiny and quality assurance. This aligns with the National Ayush Policy, which emphasizes evidence-based practice and mainstreaming of traditional systems.

India-UK collaboration framework

The conclave focuses on complementary strengths of both countries. The United Kingdom brings experience in clinical governance, patient safety and quality assurance frameworks. India offers clinical expertise in traditional medicine, technological innovation and established healthcare delivery systems. The partnership aims to create more effective and accountable healthcare models combining strengths of both approaches.

Such bilateral cooperation signals that Ayush is increasingly being discussed at institutional and international levels, not as an alternative to modern medicine but as a complementary system with defined roles in prevention and wellness.

What this means for you

If you are an Ayush graduate or pursuing postgraduate studies in Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani or homeopathy, these new certificates provide formal training to expand your clinical competence beyond traditional scope. The acute care certificate makes you eligible to support modern hospital settings, while the wellness counselling certificate positions you in preventive health roles demanded by health systems worldwide.

If you work in mainstream hospitals or clinics, these trained Ayush professionals can fill roles in patient counselling, lifestyle intervention programmes and emergency support, potentially improving patient outcomes through integrated approaches.

For healthcare institutions, the training signals that traditional medicine professionals can meet clinical standards and quality expectations of modern healthcare settings when properly trained.

What happens next

The conclave is a two-day event expected to generate discussions on sustained partnerships between Indian and UK institutions. The organizers aim to translate these discussions into concrete outcomes including further professional development opportunities, knowledge exchange programmes and innovation in healthcare delivery models.
