Ministry of Mines launches tech commercialisation catalogue for research-to-industry transfer.

Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy has launched a Commercialisation Catalogue to document and promote technologies developed through publicly funded research programmes. The catalogue brings together innovations created under sponsored programmes by the Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Department of Science and Technology and industry-supported projects into a single accessible platform for industries and technology adopters.

The initiative addresses a longstanding gap: many valuable research outcomes remain scattered across individual project reports and institutions, making it difficult for industries to discover and adopt them. This platform aims to change that by centralising verified technical information and connecting technology developers with potential commercial partners.

Key facts

  • Launched by Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy
  • Covers technologies from Ministry of Mines, MeitY, Department of Science and Technology and industry-sponsored programmes
  • Submissions collected through SATYABHAMA Portal at https://research.mines.gov.in/
  • Includes patents, prototypes, pilot-scale technologies, innovative processes and commercially relevant solutions
  • Targets technology developers, research institutions, laboratories, start-ups, MSMEs and industries

What the catalogue will contain

The catalogue will showcase a broad range of technological outputs from government-funded research and industry partnerships. This includes patents, working prototypes, pilot-scale technologies, innovative manufacturing processes and other solutions with commercial potential. Rather than burying these developments in project files, the catalogue makes them visible and accessible to industries seeking to adopt or license them.

The platform will contain verified technical information prepared in standardised formats, making it easier for industries to evaluate technologies and assess their relevance to their operations.

How it will work

Research institutions, laboratories and individual researchers are being asked to submit standardised and verified technical details through the SATYABHAMA Portal. Principal Investigators, Co-Principal Investigators and technology developers from completed and ongoing projects can contribute information about their technologies.

The Ministry will use these submissions to assess the outcomes, validate technical details, prepare technology profiles and identify innovations ready for commercialisation. Technologies will be evaluated for their maturity level, potential commercial applications and scalability.

Who can participate and benefit

The platform connects multiple stakeholder groups. Technology developers and research institutions gain visibility for their innovations beyond academic circles. Start-ups and micro, small and medium enterprises can access technologies to integrate into their products or services. Large industries can explore licensing options or acquire technologies for their operations. Prospective adopters get a single source to discover available technologies rather than hunting through multiple institutions.

Role in India’s innovation ecosystem

The catalogue is positioned as part of building a technology-driven and industry-oriented innovation ecosystem in India. Government-funded research often produces valuable innovations, but without effective commercialisation pathways, these remain underutilised. By creating a systematic bridge between research and industry, the initiative aims to ensure that taxpayer-funded research translates into practical industrial applications, creates economic value and has wider technological impact.

This is particularly relevant for emerging technologies and processes developed across sectors including mining, electronics, information technology and science research.

What this means for you

If you are a researcher or work in a research institution, you now have a structured channel to promote your innovations to industries. If you lead or work for a start-up or MSME, this catalogue offers a curated source of existing technologies that might accelerate your product development or reduce R&D timelines. If you work in industry, you can access a verified repository of indigenous technologies available for adoption, licensing or purchase, reducing your own research costs. For policy makers and innovation advocates, this platform represents progress toward closing the research-to-commercialisation gap that has historically limited the economic impact of India’s publicly funded research.

What happens next

Research institutions and technology developers are invited to submit technical details through the SATYABHAMA Portal. The Ministry will process submissions to build the initial version of the catalogue, which will then be made available to industries and prospective technology adopters.
