The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has announced a one-day nationwide drive on 14 October 2026 to clean government workplaces and clear pending administrative work. This initiative is part of Special Campaign 6.0 for Institutionalising Swachhata and Minimising Pendency, which runs from 2 October to 31 October 2026. The campaign aims to improve workplace conditions, manage waste properly, resolve public complaints faster and speed up disposal of pending files and applications across the ministry and all Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) in every state and union territory.

Key facts

  • Drive date: 14 October 2026
  • Campaign period: 2 October to 31 October 2026
  • Scope: Ministry of Panchayati Raj headquarters and all PRIs and RLBs across states and union territories
  • Advisory issued: 12 October 2026 to state and UT panchayati raj departments
  • E-Office training conducted at: Jeevan Prakash Building, New Delhi

What the ministry will do on 14 October

All divisions and sections of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj will participate in a structured cleanliness and pendency disposal programme. The activities include cleanliness volunteer work (shramdaan) at office workstations, removal of unwanted items and clutter, minor repairs to office spaces, staff training on proper management of bio-waste, and systematic collection and disposal of electronic waste and scrap. The ministry will also hold sessions to address public grievances, meet with workers involved in sanitation, and review progress made under the campaign so far.

What Panchayati Raj Institutions must do

The Ministry has asked all PRIs and RLBs across the country to conduct similar activities on the same day. Panchayat offices will be cleaned, unused materials removed, and public spaces around these offices will be beautified using resources available locally. Communities will be encouraged to plant trees as part of the drive. At the same time, panchayats must review all pending complaints, grievances and applications from the public and take steps to resolve them quickly. Staff members working in sanitation and cleanliness will be given recognition for their work.

Why this campaign matters

Special Campaign 6.0 reflects government efforts to improve how offices function and serve citizens better. By combining cleanliness with the clearing of pending work, the campaign addresses two common complaints about government offices: poor conditions and slow processing of applications. The focus on e-waste disposal and bio-waste management also shows attention to environmental responsibility. The campaign seeks to create workplaces that are clean, organised and efficient, which can help officials process public work faster and reduce the number of pending matters that frustrate citizens.

Support for digital work processes

The Ministry has also conducted training sessions for its staff on using e-Office, the government’s digital file management system. The training covered how to use the latest features of the software, how files should flow between officers, and how to manage records digitally. Better use of digital tools is expected to help speed up the processing and disposal of pending files, as physical files often get delayed or lost.

What this means for you

If you have submitted a complaint or application to your local panchayat or to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, this drive may help get your matter resolved faster. Panchayat offices in your village or block will focus on reviewing and acting on pending complaints and requests on 14 October. If you are a government employee in the ministry or a panchayati raj body, you will participate in cleanliness activities and may receive training on digital systems. Citizens visiting panchayat offices may find them cleaner and better organised.

What happens next

The campaign runs until 31 October 2026, and all participating ministries, state departments and local bodies are expected to report their progress in clearing pending work and maintaining cleanliness standards. After the campaign period ends, the goal is that these improved practices in office management and grievance disposal will continue.
