Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal Leads A 200-Member Business Delegation to Japan

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal will lead a business delegation of over 200 members to Japan from 24 to 27 August 2026. This four-day visit aims to strengthen trade and investment partnerships between the two countries. The delegation, described as India’s largest ever to Japan, will cover cities including Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.

What the delegation will do

The Minister will meet senior leaders of major Japanese business groups and hold discussions with Keidanren, the Japan Business Federation representing more than 1,500 leading Japanese firms. He will also conduct bilateral talks with Japan’s Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, H.E. Mr. Akazawa Ryosei, and meet with senior government and parliamentary officials.

The 200-member delegation spans multiple sectors including manufacturing, semiconductors, clean energy, steel, automotive, financial services, healthcare and start-ups. During the visit, dedicated sessions have been planned on semiconductors and artificial intelligence, as well as separate discussions on start-ups and engagement with foreign institutional investors.

In Nagoya, the Minister will lead a roadshow with Chukeiren (the Central Japan Economic Federation) and the Nagoya Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He will also meet Aichi Prefecture leadership and major manufacturing investors working in automotive and steel sectors. The Osaka leg will feature an investors and business roadshow highlighting opportunities in India’s manufacturing, clean energy and consumer markets, with meetings scheduled with leading Japanese companies in electronics, industrial and consumer sectors.

Beyond official meetings, the Minister will interact with the Indian community in Japan.

What this means for you

This visit signals India and Japan’s commitment to deepening economic ties at a time when both nations are looking to significantly increase trade and investment flows. Japanese companies have long been major investors in India’s automotive, steel, electronics, financial services and infrastructure sectors. The large delegation size and focus on high-technology manufacturing and emerging industries suggest both countries see potential for expanded cooperation in areas aligned with India’s development goals.
