The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has marked a significant milestone with the National Traders’ Welfare Board completing its 100th virtual conference session. The Board, chaired by Sunil J. Singhi, has been conducting these weekly online meetings to maintain regular contact with traders across India and address their concerns directly.
The Virtual Platform and How It Works
The idea for a dedicated virtual meeting space emerged during the Board’s second meeting on 7 February 2024, when Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal proposed creating a structured channel for traders to connect with government. The initiative was formally launched on 11 July 2024 and has since operated every Monday from 3 PM to 4 PM.
Through these sessions, traders have been able to:
- Learn about government schemes and policy changes affecting their business
- Raise grievances and submit suggestions directly to officials
- Connect with other traders from different parts of the country on common issues
The Board has also used feedback from these meetings to identify patterns in trader concerns and forward them to relevant government departments for action.
What This Means for You
If you are a retail trader, small business owner, or run a trading enterprise, these weekly virtual sessions offer a direct line to government officials without needing to travel or wait for formal appointments. You can share your business problems, ask about new policies or schemes you may be eligible for, and have your concerns formally logged and escalated to the appropriate ministry or department.
The Board views traders as essential to India’s economy, recognising their role in connecting producers with consumers and supporting livelihoods across communities. Going forward, the Board plans to increase participation in these sessions and improve how feedback is converted into concrete solutions.
