The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has launched DAANVEER, a computer crowdsourcing initiative that allows citizens and organizations to donate desktop computers directly to village councils that need them. The scheme works through the Meri Panchayat App and aims to build stronger digital capacity in Gram Panchayats across the country.
DAANVEER complements existing government programs such as the Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan by inviting voluntary contributions from the public to upgrade grassroots digital infrastructure.
How the donation process works
Donors use the Meri Panchayat App to view Gram Panchayats that have been verified by their State Governments and are in need of computers. A donor can select any eligible Panchayat, including their own village or any other location they wish to support.
Once a donor clicks “Donate Computer”, they are taken to DigiHaat, an ONDC-enabled digital marketplace, without needing a fresh registration. The system automatically fills in the Panchayat’s delivery address and recipient details. Donors can choose from standardized computer bundles that meet prescribed technical requirements, pay digitally, and track their order from purchase through to delivery.
After the Gram Panchayat Secretary acknowledges receipt, the donor receives a digitally generated Certificate of Appreciation. Every step of the donation can be tracked in real time on the app, ensuring transparency throughout the process.
What this means for you
If you live in a village or have connections to one, you can now contribute directly to improving its administrative capacity without going through intermediaries. The digital tracking means you will always know the status of your donation. For members of the Indian diaspora and philanthropic organizations, this provides a credible channel to support village governance and stay connected to their roots. As of 27 August 2026, 75 donations had already been completed, showing that the initiative has begun gaining public acceptance.
