The Ministry of Defence has launched a major tank maintenance project in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The Raksha Mantri and the state’s Chief Minister performed the groundbreaking ceremony on August 27, 2026, for a new facility that will service the Indian Army’s tank fleet. What the project involves
The T-Series Tanks Overhaul Project is a Rs 472 crore initiative being set up at Vehicle Factory, Jabalpur, which is run by Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL). The facility will repair and overhaul T-72 and T-90 tanks, with capacity to service 80 tanks every year.
This addition is necessary because the Indian Army needs 230 tanks overhauled annually. The existing Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi can currently handle only 150 tanks per year. Once the Jabalpur facility becomes operational, the combined capacity will reach 230 tanks annually, meeting the Army’s full requirement.
