The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has marked one year since the restructured phase of the Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme began. The scheme, which originally launched in June 2020 to offer collateral-free loans to urban street vendors, was restructured and approved by the Union Cabinet on 27 August 2025. It now aims to reach 1.15 crore street vendors with expanded support beyond credit alone.
Key Details of the Restructured Scheme
The lending window under the restructured scheme runs until 31 March 2030. In the first year after restructuring, 21.86 lakh loans totalling ₹6,294 crore were given to 10.56 lakh new beneficiaries.
Since the scheme began in 2020, it has delivered over 1.18 crore loans worth ₹19,171 crore to 78.68 lakh vendors. The government has also released ₹421 crore as interest subsidy to encourage timely repayment.
New features introduced include:
- UPI-linked RuPay Credit Cards with up to ₹30,000 credit limit. So far, 27,077 cards have been approved.
- A Digital Lending Platform that handles applications, verification, approval and money transfer end-to-end.
- A Vendor Migration Module allowing vendors to transfer their eligibility when moving between different urban areas.
- Expansion to Census Towns beyond traditional urban local bodies.
- 50 Street Food Hubs across the country, with cities eligible for up to ₹4 crore per hub plus ₹25 lakh for vending zone notification.
The scheme also covers digital adoption, with ₹418.78 crore in cashback incentives released for both retail and wholesale transactions. Over 57.09 lakh vendors have completed more than 908 crore digital transactions.
Additional support includes social security linkage under the SVANidhi se Samridhhi programme, where socio-economic profiles of 51.15 lakh beneficiary families were completed and over 1.59 crore welfare scheme sanctions were processed. More than 6 lakh food vendors received FSSAI training on food safety.
What This Means for You
If you run a street vending business, the restructured scheme now offers easier access to formal credit through a simpler digital process, plus a credit card option. The scheme covers not just loans but also digital payment support, welfare linkages and business training. The Lok Kalyan Melas, scheduled from 1 to 30 September 2026, will bring banks and government officials to your area to help register and access these benefits.
