The Union Ministry of Rural Development has launched a special Metro train that celebrates India’s independence movement. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan unveiled the themed train at Central Secretariat Metro Station in New Delhi on 27 August 2026. The initiative aims to educate commuters, particularly young people, about the freedom struggle and the contributions of those who fought for independence.
What the train contains and its purpose
The Metro train displays the lives, ideas and achievements of freedom fighters, revolutionaries and other key figures from India’s independence movement. During the launch event, Minister Chouhan inscribed patriotic words on the train as a tribute to martyrs. He stated that the initiative would help younger generations understand this crucial period of India’s history and motivate them through the examples of courage and patriotism shown by independence fighters.
The Minister also appreciated the efforts of Delhi Metro officials and Prabhat Prakashan in bringing the stories of the freedom movement to the public. Books about Delhi Metro’s history were displayed during the event.
