The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India will conduct public hearings and a camp sitting in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 2nd and 3rd September 2026. During these sessions, the NHRC will examine cases of alleged human rights violations reported in the State, with both complainants and government officials present to participate in the proceedings.
What will happen during the two days
On 2nd September 2026, the full NHRC will convene at the National Forensic Sciences University starting at 10:30 a.m. The Chairperson, Justice V. Ramasubramanian, and Members Justice (Dr.) Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi and Smt. Vijaya Bharathi Sayani will hear cases of alleged human rights violations from Gujarat.
On 3rd September 2026, the Chairperson will separately examine cases related to alleged bonded labour in the State. Simultaneously, the two Members will hear cases concerning compliance matters and other complaints of human rights violations.
The schedule also includes:
- A meeting at 2:00 p.m. with representatives from civil society organisations, NGOs and Human Rights Defenders
- A discussion at 3:00 p.m. with senior State government officers on human rights issues
- A media briefing at 4:15 p.m.
