National Conference on Quantum Biotechnology charts India’s path in quantum-enabled life sciences

The Ministry of Science and Technology has convened a national conference to explore how quantum technology can be applied to life sciences and medicine in India. Held at IIT Bombay, the conference brought together researchers, doctors, business leaders, startups and students to chart a direction for quantum-enabled diagnostics, imaging, drug development and personalised treatment.

The QMet Tech Foundation, established at IIT Bombay with government support as a thematic hub for quantum sensing and metrology, played a central role. This body is tasked with converting quantum sensing capabilities into usable healthcare technology, supporting new companies, building skilled workforce and creating manufacturing capacity.

Speakers emphasised that quantum biotechnology sits at the intersection of quantum sensing, imaging and computing with life sciences. The challenge ahead is translating laboratory demonstrations into clinical tools that can reach patients.
