The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology’s Digital India BHASHINI Division has organised an interactive developer session called BHASHINI शिल्पी in Kathmandu, Nepal. The event brought together software developers, technology professionals and innovators to explore how artificial intelligence applied to language technology can solve real-world problems across different communities and languages.
What was covered at the session
The session was designed as a hands-on learning space rather than a traditional lecture format. Participants received live demonstrations of BHASHINI technology, engaged in practical discussions, and had the chance to ask questions directly to the BHASHINI team.
The event walked developers through four main stages of working with BHASHINI:
- Develop with BHASHINI: Learning how to start building applications
- Solve with BHASHINI: Addressing specific challenges using the platform
- Scale with BHASHINI: Growing solutions from early prototypes to larger deployment
- Innovate with BHASHINI: Applying language AI to practical real-world problems
Developers were introduced to BHASHINI application programming interfaces and other tools available to create solutions. A highlight was an interactive segment where participants pitched ideas and discussed how BHASHINI could help turn identified problems into working prototypes and larger solutions.
The Digital India BHASHINI Division operates as India’s national platform for multilingual digital services powered by artificial intelligence. It currently supports 36 Indian text languages, 23 Indian voice languages and 35 international languages. The platform processes more than 24 million daily artificial intelligence operations and has completed over 9 billion total inferences. It powers more than 800 government websites.
