The Union Ministry of Communications has inaugurated India’s seventh Postal Training Centre in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. The facility, formally inaugurated by Union Minister for Communications Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, will serve postal workers from across the state and neighbouring regions. The move aims to boost training and skill development within the Department of Posts.
What the new centre offers
The Postal Training Centre at Shivpuri will function as a national-level training hub, equipped with modern technology and designed to evolve with changing operational needs. Postal employees from Madhya Pradesh will no longer need to travel around 600 kilometres to access training facilities, which previously operated only at six locations: Saharanpur, Vadodara, Mysuru, Guwahati, Madurai and Darbhanga.
The six existing centres train approximately 2,000 personnel each year. The addition of the Shivpuri centre expands this network significantly. The new facility was selected for its central location within India and good connectivity, making it accessible for trainees across multiple states.
On the same occasion, the Department of Posts also inaugurated a renovated Shivpuri Head Post Office. This upgraded office features Jan Sewa Connect, a single-window facility offering multiple postal services under one roof. Services available include Speed Post, Savings Bank products, Postal Life Insurance, Aadhaar-related services and parcel delivery. The modernised office was redesigned according to standards set by the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi, with focus on accessibility and customer comfort.
