The Prime Minister will travel to Gujarat and Maharashtra on 8 September 2026, according to an announcement by the Prime Minister’s Office. During the visit, he will launch, dedicate and open various infrastructure and development projects. The announcements affect transport networks, urban planning, highway safety and the financial technology sector across both states.
What will happen in Vadodara
Around noon on 8 September, the Prime Minister will dedicate three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor to the nation. These sections—Sanand (N)-Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-JNPT—cover 326 route kilometres and cost more than 20,700 crore rupees. The completion marks the full activation of the entire Dedicated Freight Corridor network. Direct connection to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority will enable faster movement of import-export cargo, lower logistics expenses and reduce strain on Mumbai’s railways.
The Prime Minister will also lay foundation stones for three railway projects spanning 329 kilometres at a cost of more than 9,700 crore rupees. These include third and fourth lines between Vadodara and Ratlam, a gauge conversion project from Miyagam Karjan to Choranda and Malsar, and track doubling on the Vishwamitri-Dabhoi route. Three National Highway projects costing around 1,780 crore rupees will receive foundation stones as well, including six-laning work on sections of NH-48 and grade-separated structures at multiple junctions on NH-53.
In Vadodara, the Prime Minister will also lay foundation stones and inaugurate various state government projects worth approximately 2,600 crore rupees. These include phases of the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road, a 110 megawatt floating solar installation at Kadana Dam, housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and water supply schemes for 11 villages.
What will happen in Mumbai
Around 5:45 PM, the Prime Minister will open the seventh Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai. The festival runs from 8 to 11 September 2026 and brings together policymakers, central banks, financial institutions and technology firms. The theme is “Potential to Impact: Agentic AI, Tokenisation, Quantum—Trusted, Connected, Global Systems for Inclusive Finance.”
