The Ministry of Home Affairs has conferred the President’s Colour on the Goa Police, recognizing eight decades of service to the state. Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the honour in Panaji. The President’s Colour is awarded to police forces that have demonstrated professional excellence, courage, discipline and sustained dedication to national security.
What the Goa Police has achieved
The Goa Police has been tasked with three major responsibilities since the state’s formation: maintaining internal security, protecting citizens and tourists, and safeguarding the maritime border. The force has shown measurable improvements in recent performance.
- Emergency response time under the 112 helpline has been cut from 18 minutes to 8 minutes, with the aim to reduce it further to under 6 minutes
- The conviction rate has increased by 30 percentage points in a single year, rising from 23 per cent to 53 per cent of cases
- Implementation of new criminal justice codes has progressed to 93.38 per cent, with the force ranking second nationally
- An AI-based call agent for the 1930 cyber fraud helpline now registers complaints in all languages listed in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution
The force has also been ranked first in the country for several months in implementing the new Nyaya Sanhitas, which introduce technology, sensitivity and faster justice delivery across the criminal justice system.
