Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan visited Itanagar on 9 September 2026 to address a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. In his speech, he urged legislators to strengthen democratic traditions and focus on developing both the state and the nation. The Vice-President highlighted Arunachal Pradesh’s role in national security and development.

The Vice-President stressed that all legislative work should be guided by two principles: Rashtra Pratham (Nation First) and Viksit Bharat @ 2047 (Developed India by 2047). He described India as the “Mother of Democracy” and called on lawmakers to honour this heritage through their actions.
Speaking about Arunachal Pradesh, he noted the state’s strategic location, cultural diversity and natural wealth. He linked the security of the rest of India directly to the protection of the state’s borders.
The Vice-President congratulated the state on recent achievements:
- Becoming India’s leading kiwi producer
- Expanding road networks
- Issuing more than one lakh Soil Health Cards to farmers
- Progress in education and per capita income levels
He also praised the state legislature for marking its Golden Jubilee and for green initiatives like making the Legislative Secretariat plastic-free.
On legislative function, the Vice-President said that debates, discussions and even disruptions must eventually lead to decisions that benefit the public. He called on legislators to use Question Hour and Zero Hour to raise issues affecting their constituencies and public policy.
The Vice-President emphasised that development must be inclusive, ensuring no tribal or marginalised community is left behind. He also stressed balancing environmental protection with responsible use of natural resources. Specifically, he noted that Arunachal Pradesh’s hydropower resources, if utilised properly, could increase state revenue and speed up development.
