The Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Shri V. Somanna, visited the Control Office of Delhi Division to assess how the railways are managing safety, train operations, punctuality and public complaints. During the visit on 9 September 2026, he held discussions with Delhi Division’s Divisional Railway Manager and reviewed the various departments that keep trains running.
What the Minister Reviewed
The Control Office is the operational centre of a Railway Division. It functions continuously—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year—to manage train scheduling, maintenance, safety and other critical activities.
During his inspection, Shri Somanna observed several key sections:
- Section Controllers and departmental verticals including Engineering, Coaching, Goods and Commercial
- Signal and Telecom Controls and Traction operations
- Security Controls
- The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Centre
- The War Room of Delhi Division
Delhi Division is noted as one of the most complex administrative divisions within Indian Railways.
Focus Areas Identified
The Minister highlighted that Indian Railways has significantly accelerated its adoption of technology across train operations, safety monitoring and maintenance. He stressed that technology-driven systems have reduced human error and strengthened safety measures. The discussions also covered ways to improve working conditions for railway staff and opportunities for future infrastructure development.
Shri Somanna noted that these technology improvements are being pursued under the Make in India policy initiative and the overall direction of the Union Minister for Railways.
What This Means for You
These visits and reviews feed into how Indian Railways aims to improve your travel experience. Greater technology use means better monitoring of train movements, quicker response to safety issues and smoother operations. Improved coordination between departments, combined with focus on staff welfare, can translate to more reliable schedules and faster resolution of passenger complaints. The emphasis on modernisation suggests that railway services across divisions like Delhi will continue upgrading their systems and processes over time.
