The Ministry of Railways has given approval for a ₹209 crore investment to install Electronic Interlocking systems at seven stations within the Solapur Division of Central Railway. This project targets stations on a heavily used rail corridor and forms part of a larger push to upgrade signalling technology across Indian Railways.
Project Details
The Electronic Interlocking systems will be installed at the following seven stations on the High Density Network 7 route:
- Mohol
- Mundhewadi
- Bale
- Solapur
- Hotgi Junction-Hotgi A Cabin
- Shahabad
- Wadi Junction
The total project cost is ₹209 crore. These upgrades will be rolled out in tandem with other modern signalling technologies already sanctioned for these stations, including Kavach (an indigenous Automatic Train Protection system), Automatic Block Signalling and Centralised Traffic Control systems.
Electronic Interlocking is a computer-based signalling system that works differently from the older relay-based systems still in use on many Indian rail lines. The technology improves how points and signals are controlled, speeds up the detection and repair of faults, reduces maintenance burdens and allows trains to operate more efficiently on the same stretch of track.
