The Department of School Education & Literacy under the Union Ministry of Education held a national webinar on solid and electronic waste management in New Delhi. The event was organised as part of preparations for Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 and Special Campaign 6.0, two national cleanliness initiatives. The webinar aimed to engage school students and teachers on proper waste handling and environmental responsibility.

The webinar drew over 2.6 lakh school students, teachers and community members via YouTube. As part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026, the Department announced a quiz competition on the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 for students in grades 6 to 12. The quiz will run from September 17 to October 17, 2026 and can be accessed through the Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE portal.
Under Special Campaign 6.0, the Department has set a target of conducting 7 lakh cleanliness campaigns across the country. A portal dedicated to Special Campaign 6.0 was also launched during the event.
During Special Campaign 5.0, approximately one lakh school students collected over 4,000 kilogrammes of electronic waste across ten cities in four states and one union territory. The Department highlighted that proper implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 is necessary for reducing pollution, conserving resources, promoting recycling and ensuring safe management of waste.
Officials stressed the role of Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE in helping students understand environmental challenges and develop responsible attitudes toward the environment. The webinar featured expert presentations on solid waste management and demonstrations of the Eco Clubs portal and its educational resources.
