Pragati is the All India Council for Technical Education scholarship for girls entering technical education. It is aimed squarely at the moment a family decides whether a daughter should take up an engineering degree or a polytechnic diploma, and it pays a flat annual amount for every year of the course, covering tuition, books, equipment and other costs the student chooses to put it towards.

Two conditions shape who gets it. Admission must have come through the centralised counselling process, which keeps the scheme tied to the formal seat allocation system, and no more than two girls from the same family may hold the award. A limited number of scholarships is sanctioned each year and is distributed across states and union territories, with reservation applied within that pool. Applications are filed on the National Scholarship Portal and verified by the institution before disbursal.
