The Ministry of Defence has announced that Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will deliver several aircraft and helicopters to the Indian Air Force and Pawan Hans Limited on September 18, 2026 in Bengaluru. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu will be present at the handover ceremony. The delivery marks a significant step in India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative to reduce dependence on imported defence equipment.
What is being handed over
HAL will deliver the following platforms:
- Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Final Operational Clearance (FOC) Twin Seater Trainers to the Indian Air Force
- HTT 40 Basic Trainer Aircraft to the Indian Air Force
- Dhruv Next Generation (NG) helicopters to Pawan Hans Limited
Senior officials attending the event will include Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, the Chief of the Air Staff; Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary (Defence Production); and Samir Kumar Sinha, Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The CMD of HAL, Shri Ravi K, will also be present along with representatives from defence and aerospace sectors.
Why this matters
The Government views this delivery as evidence of India’s growing capability to design, develop and manufacture advanced military and civilian aircraft platforms domestically. The handover demonstrates HAL’s work alongside industry partners in building a stronger domestic aerospace sector. By inducting these indigenously produced platforms, India aims to strengthen its self-reliant defence capabilities and reduce its reliance on foreign manufacturers for critical defence equipment.
