The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) under the Ministry of Finance will join a nationwide cleanliness and efficiency drive called Special Campaign 6.0 from 2 October to 31 October 2026. The campaign, coordinated by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, aims to clean up government offices and clear pending administrative work across the country. CBDT and its offices nationwide will take part in this effort.
What CBDT will focus on during the campaign
The CBDT has identified four main areas for improvement:
- Disposal of electronic waste
- Better management of records
- Making better use of office space and improving the appearance of offices
- Faster handling of public complaints
The CBDT’s track record offers context. During Special Campaign 5.0, the board cleaned 1,521 locations, cleared 2.30 lakh physical files and over 10,000 electronic files. The Income Tax Department freed up 1.67 lakh square feet of office space and earned ₹32 lakh by selling scrap material. Importantly, the CBDT resolved more than 21,251 public complaints during that campaign.
Between December 2025 and August 2026, even outside a formal campaign period, the CBDT addressed 52,290 public complaints and disposed of more than 6,776 complaint appeals. This shows the board’s ongoing commitment to responding to citizen concerns.

The CBDT’s focus on speeding up grievance redressal suggests the department will prioritize pending public matters.
