The South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, honoured 75 workers on September 17, 2026, at its Bilaspur headquarters. The recognition came on Vishwakarma Jayanti and the Prime Minister’s birthday. The workers were acknowledged for their contributions across mining, operations, maintenance, supervision and technical roles.
What the award scheme involved
The awards were the second edition of the SECL Vishwakarma Awards. The felicitated workers included both permanent and contractual staff. The programme also recognised sanitation workers as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Special Campaign 6.0, an ongoing cleanliness initiative.
During the event, a message from the Union Minister for Coal and Mines was shared, highlighting coal workers’ role in the country’s energy security and development.
Under Special Campaign 6.0, SECL has set specific operational targets across its facilities:
- 225 sites have been identified for cleanliness activities, covering roughly 40 lakh square feet
- The company aims to dispose of 3,300 metric tonnes of scrap
- Systematic e-waste management will be undertaken across SECL establishments
- 500 physical files will be reviewed, with 200 to be weeded out
- 7,000 e-files will be reviewed and 3,000 e-files will be closed
The campaign emphasises the dignity of work and collective responsibility towards cleanliness and hygiene in workplaces.
