The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has inaugurated a new Electric Vehicle and Green Skills Laboratory at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI) in Bengaluru. The lab was opened under the Skills4Future programme, a joint effort between Shell India, the Directorate General of Training, and MSDE to prepare young people for jobs in electric vehicles and clean energy sectors.
What the lab offers and its reach so far
The new facility at NSTI Bengaluru provides hands-on training in electric vehicle systems, battery technologies, diagnostics and safety practices. Students and trainers will gain practical exposure to emerging green technologies designed to improve their chances of employment in the growing sustainable mobility and clean energy industries.
The Skills4Future programme has already made significant progress across India. It has:
- Reached more than 290 institutes across five states
- Trained over 70,000 learners
- Upskilled more than 258 faculty members
- Established 20 Green Skills EV laboratories
In Karnataka alone, the programme has worked with 101 Industrial Training Institutes, trained 9,113 students so far.
