India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has outlined the government’s vision for turning India into a developed nation by 2047, emphasizing values of resilience, innovation, and inclusive growth. Speaking in Kochi on September 18, 2026, Singh said the country is being shaped by its ability to face challenges and convert them into opportunities while drawing from India’s historical strengths and civilisational values.

Singh pointed to several concrete achievements over the past 12 years. Indigenous defence production has grown from Rs 40,000 crore in 2014 to nearly Rs 1.80 lakh crore today. Defence exports have increased from around Rs 600 crore to Rs 40,000 crore, with Indian defence equipment now reaching approximately 100 countries.
On poverty reduction, Singh stated that more than 250 million people have been lifted out of poverty in the last decade. He credited welfare programmes including PM SHRI, Ayushman Bharat, Lakhpati Didi, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ujjwala Yojana for making development more inclusive.
Singh highlighted India’s technology contributions, noting that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), the world’s largest real-time payment system, has been adopted by more than 11 countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, India provided free vaccines to its citizens and sent more than 300 million vaccines to 100 countries.
He also mentioned India’s progress on climate targets, achieving several goals ahead of schedule, and its leadership through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and Global Biofuels Alliance.
