The Department of Justice under the Ministry of Law and Justice is running a two-week cleanliness drive as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026. The campaign began on 17 September 2026 and will run until 2 October 2026, with activities designed to encourage citizen participation and collective responsibility for cleanliness across government offices.
What the Department of Justice plans to do
The Department of Justice is carrying out a series of activities at its Jaisalmer House office in New Delhi during the campaign fortnight. These include:
- Shramdaan activities (voluntary labour) focused on cleaning the entire Department building
- Daily cleanliness of rooms, sections, corridors, canteen areas and washrooms across the office
- A tree plantation programme under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative
- An auction of old and unusable items to free up office space
- Distribution of cleanliness kits and incentives to housekeeping staff and sanitation workers as a welfare measure
- Deep cleaning of sewerage systems, staircases, pathways and workspaces, along with painting and repairs
On 17 September 2026, the Secretary of the Department of Justice administered an oath on cleanliness to all department officials, committing them to the campaign’s goals. The Department will also participate in a nationwide one-hour voluntary cleaning event called “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta Ek Saath” on 1 October 2026, organised jointly by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
