The government has announced that the National Rozgar Mela has distributed appointment letters to over 12.75 lakh youth across 20 editions since its launch. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, along with partner agencies, conducts these recruitment events to connect job seekers with government and private sector employers. The 20th edition took place on 19 September 2026 and distributed over 51,000 appointment letters.
What the Rozgar Mela delivers
The National Rozgar Mela began in October 2022 with a target of filling 10 lakh government positions. Each edition is a half-day event held across multiple locations where employers and candidates meet directly to apply and interview for jobs. The 20th edition alone was held across 45 locations and involved Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributing appointment letters via video conference.
Young people appointed through this scheme have joined various government departments and organisations, including the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Posts, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Department of Financial Services, and Ministry of Labour and Employment.
Rozgar Melas are open to candidates aged 18 to 35 years with diverse educational backgrounds:
- 8th, 10th and 12th pass candidates
- ITI and Diploma holders
- Graduates
- Candidates holding National Skills Qualifications Framework certifications
Beyond direct recruitment, these events offer career counselling, skill development registration under schemes like Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana, information on Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana loans for entrepreneurs, and sector skill exhibitions showing different occupational pathways.
What this means for you
If you are between 18 and 35, a Rozgar Mela offers a chance to meet government and private employers face-to-face without waiting for formal competitive exam results or lengthy recruitment timelines. The events also help candidates understand which sectors are hiring and what skills are in demand. Information about upcoming Melas is shared through advertisements, bulk SMS and social media, with special outreach in host districts.
