The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying has launched the Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 programme, a nationwide campaign to promote cleanliness and sanitation. The department administered a Swachhata Pledge on 17 September 2026 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat to mark the beginning of this initiative. The pledge involved over 1,000 participants including fisheries officials, fishermen, fish farmers, women engaged in fishing, cooperatives and industry representatives.
The Pledge and Its Focus
Dr Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, led the pledge ceremony alongside Dr Surabhi Rai, Joint Secretary (Marine Fisheries), and Shri Arunkumar M. Solanki, Additional Chief Secretary (Fisheries) of the Government of Gujarat. The pledge focused on four key areas:
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene at workplaces
- Reducing administrative pendency and delays
- Improving record management practices
- Building a transparent and citizen-centric work culture
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 campaign runs from 17 September to 2 October 2026 across the country as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission vision. The event was held in both physical and online modes to enable wider participation.
