The Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, addressed the 20th Rozgar Mela recruitment drive in Chennai on 19 September 2026. The event marked the distribution of appointment letters to newly selected government employees across India. More than 51,000 candidates have received job offers through the nationwide Rozgar Mela initiative.
The Scale and Scope
With the completion of the 20th Rozgar Mela, approximately 12.75 lakh young people will have secured government employment through this scheme since its inception. The recruitment drive is a significant pathway for Indian youth seeking stable public sector jobs.
Dr Pemmasani highlighted India’s economic and infrastructure progress since 2014. Mobile phone manufacturing units have grown from two in 2014-15 to around 300 today. India’s defence exports have surged from approximately 600 crore rupees in 2013-14 to around 30,000 crore rupees in 2025-26. The national highway network has expanded substantially, while railway electrification has progressed rapidly with Vande Bharat trains and station redevelopment improving connectivity.

Dr Pemmasani encouraged newly appointed employees to approach their work with integrity, empathy, responsibility and commitment to continuous learning. He stressed that government employees should view their work from the citizen’s perspective, recognising that routine administrative files represent important life matters for ordinary people.
The Minister urged recruits to question established practices rather than blindly follow processes, emphasising that widespread practice does not validate incorrect action. He advised them to seek guidance from experienced colleagues, use digital learning resources and explore AI tools. He also encouraged openness to new postings, languages, cultures and working environments.
Dr Pemmasani called upon young employees to identify citizen challenges and explore solutions through technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. He suggested three guiding principles for their careers: remembering the citizen, their families, and their younger selves as anchors for remaining grounded in public service.
