The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation will open a three-day national conference of anti-drug task force leaders from across India on 22 September 2026 in New Delhi. The Ministry of Home Affairs is organising the event to coordinate efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse. Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs) from all 36 states and union territories will attend.
What the conference will cover
The gathering will run for two days under the theme “United Resolve, Shared Responsibility”. It will assess progress on targets set out in the government’s Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026-2029). The conference will include eight technical sessions on topics including dismantling drug networks and cartels, tackling synthetic drugs and clandestine laboratories, darknet and cryptocurrency investigations, demand reduction and rehabilitation, enforcement strategies, precursor control, and destruction of illegal drug crops.
During the event, the Home Minister will also lay foundation stones for new Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Zone offices in Lucknow and Dehradun. Television commercials promoting awareness against drug abuse will be released. A revamped NCB website will be launched. The best-performing ANTF among states and union territories will be recognised.
The conference aims to strengthen three main approaches to drug control: reducing supply, reducing demand, and reducing harm. It will bring together state governments, federal agencies and other stakeholders to discuss ways to improve drug law enforcement over the next three years.
