The Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned 3 lakh houses worth Rs 3,600 crore for Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin 2.0. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan handed over the houses on October 4, 2026, at an event in Burripalem village, Guntur district, in the presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The announcement also included the foundation stone laying for India’s first pilot housing project using 3D concrete printing technology, comprising 177 houses at a cost of Rs 14 crore.

Key facts

  • Houses sanctioned: 3 lakh under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin 2.0
  • Total allocation: Rs 3,600 crore
  • Initial proposed allocation: 76,000 houses; revised to 3 lakh houses
  • 3D concrete-printed housing pilot: 177 houses at Rs 14 crore cost
  • Expected construction time for 3D houses: six months
  • Location of pilot project: Burripalem and Obulnayudupalem villages, Guntur district
  • Date of announcement: October 4, 2026
  • Lakhpati Didis in Andhra Pradesh: 23 lakh current; target of 60 lakh
  • National Saras Mela date and location: October 15 in Andhra Pradesh

How the allocation was increased

According to the statement, the initial allocation proposed for Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin 2.0 was 76,000 houses. However, following Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s request to ensure that every poor family in the state had permanent housing, the Union government increased the allocation to 3 lakh houses. Chouhan stated that the Chief Minister had further requested 6 lakh additional houses, and assured that the Centre would consider sanctioning more houses once the current phase was completed.

3D concrete printing technology for faster construction

The pilot housing project at Burripalem and Obulnayudupalem will use 3D concrete printing technology, marking the first such project in India. The 177 houses are expected to be constructed within six months using advanced machinery. This approach aims to reduce construction time, labour costs and material requirements compared to conventional building methods. The technology is also designed to provide greater structural durability and a longer lifespan for the houses.

Support for farmers and women entrepreneurs

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, farmers in Andhra Pradesh receive Rs 6,000 annually from the Centre. The state government supplements this with Rs 14,000 annually under the ‘Annadata Sukhibhava’ scheme, providing a combined annual assistance of Rs 20,000 per farmer. The Union government has also set a target to increase the number of Lakhpati Didis (self-help group members earning Rs 1 lakh annually) in the state from the current 23 lakh to 60 lakh, strengthening women’s financial independence and livelihood opportunities.

Other development initiatives mentioned

The Ministry highlighted the Union government’s earlier decision to recognise Amaravati as the sole permanent capital of Andhra Pradesh following the state’s division in 2014. The Centre has extended special financial assistance of Rs 15,000 crore for Amaravati’s development. The Polavaram irrigation project, described as critical for the state, is progressing with 100% grant assistance from the Centre. The proposed Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is expected to improve connectivity and support economic growth.

What this means for you

If you are a poor household in rural Andhra Pradesh without permanent housing, this announcement means your family is eligible to benefit from the expanded Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin 2.0. The allocation of 3 lakh houses significantly increases the likelihood of housing assistance reaching your community. If you are a farmer, combined assistance from both central and state governments now provides Rs 20,000 annually. If you are a woman entrepreneur in a self-help group, the government’s target to increase Lakhpati Didis to 60 lakh creates greater opportunities for livelihood expansion and financial independence.

What happens next

The 3D concrete-printed housing pilot project is expected to be completed within six months, which will provide data on the feasibility and effectiveness of this technology for scaling across the state. The Chief Minister has indicated that the state requires a total of 9 lakh houses, and has sought the Centre’s commitment to sanction the remaining 6 lakh houses once the first phase of 3 lakh is completed. The national Saras Mela, to be inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu on October 15 in Andhra Pradesh, will provide a platform for women-led self-help groups to showcase and market their products.
