The Ministry of Rural Development has approved the construction of 3 lakh permanent houses in Andhra Pradesh at a cost of Rs 3,600 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin 2.0). The announcement was made by Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan during an event in Burripalem village, Guntur district, on 4 October 2026. The state government had originally requested support for only 76,000 houses, but the expanded allocation now covers 3 lakh homes.

Key facts

  • 3 lakh permanent houses to be built in Andhra Pradesh
  • Total project cost: Rs 3,600 crore
  • Pilot project: 177 houses using 3D printing technology at Rs 14 crore
  • Houses built with 3D technology can be completed in 6 months
  • Locations of pilot project: Burripalem and Obulanaidupalem villages in Guntur district
  • Original allocation for Andhra: 76,000 houses; revised allocation: 3 lakh houses
  • National SARAS Mela to be held in Andhra Pradesh on 15 October 2026, inaugurated by President Droupadi Murmu

What the housing scheme covers

The expanded allocation under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin 2.0 aims to provide permanent houses to poor households across rural Andhra Pradesh. The scheme represents a significant increase from the original allocation, reflecting the state government’s demand to ensure housing for all economically weaker sections in the state. The Union Minister stated that if the state requires additional houses beyond the initial 3 lakh, the Central Government would sanction another 3 lakh homes immediately upon completion of the first phase.

3D printing technology pilot project

As part of this initiative, the government is launching a pilot project featuring the country’s first housing construction using 3D concrete printing technology. The 177-house pilot project is located in Burripalem and Obulanaidupalem villages and cost Rs 14 crore. This technology offers significant advantages over traditional construction: houses built through 3D printing can be completed in six months, require less labor, and cost less than conventional methods. The approach also promises greater durability and longevity compared to traditionally built homes.

Integration with farmer and women empowerment schemes

The housing initiative is being linked with the state government’s broader poverty alleviation and economic empowerment programmes. The Annadata Sukhi Bhava scheme provides farmers with Rs 14,000 annually in addition to the Rs 6,000 PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi from the Central Government, bringing total annual assistance to Rs 20,000 per farmer. The state is also focusing on women’s economic empowerment through self-help groups, with the government aiming to increase the number of Lakhpati Didis (women earning annual income above Rs 1 lakh) from the current 23 lakh to 60 lakh across the state.

Related infrastructure and development initiatives

This housing programme forms part of a larger development agenda for Andhra Pradesh. The Central Government has granted legal status to Amaravati as the state’s permanent capital and released Rs 15,000 crore in special financial assistance. The Polavaram irrigation project is being completed with 100 percent Central Government grants. The proposed Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport is expected to enhance connectivity. The government also plans to develop Andhra Pradesh as the country’s largest horticulture hub for fruits, flowers, vegetables, and medicinal crops.

What this means for you

If you are a poor household in rural Andhra Pradesh, you may become eligible for a permanent house under the expanded scheme, depending on the state’s beneficiary selection criteria for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin 2.0. If you are a farmer, you can avail the combined benefit of Rs 20,000 annually through the Centre and state schemes. Women in self-help groups have access to the Lakhpati Didi programme to increase household income. The national SARAS Mela on 15 October will showcase self-help group enterprises and provide business opportunities for women entrepreneurs.
