About Ayurveda Day

Ayurveda Day is observed annually on 27 September to mark the birth anniversary of Charaka, an ancient Indian physician considered the father of Ayurvedic medicine. The day aims to draw global attention to Ayurveda’s contributions to health and wellness. The Ministry of Ayush uses this occasion to promote Ayurveda both within India and internationally as a legitimate system of medicine that can complement modern healthcare approaches.

What the celebration included

The morning public awareness rally brought together the Institute’s leadership, faculty members, research scholars and administrative staff to walk through the campus and surrounding areas, spreading information about Ayurvedic practices and their benefits in daily life. Prof. P.K. Prajapati, the Director of AIIA, led the rally along with multiple deans overseeing undergraduate, doctoral and postgraduate programmes.

The seminar in the afternoon assembled medical practitioners, academicians and researchers to discuss how Ayurveda can work alongside modern scientific evidence and innovation. The theme “One Health, One Future” reflects the global movement towards integrated healthcare systems that address human, animal and environmental health as interconnected domains. Dr. Vinay Choudhary’s presentation on autoimmune disorders demonstrated how classical Ayurvedic concepts can be applied to conditions that modern medicine recognises and treats.

New publications and programmes

Two significant books were launched during the celebration. “Tarangini Sara Sangraha” and “Integrative Healthcare for Better Outcomes” add to the body of literature available on Ayurvedic practice and its integration with other healthcare systems. These publications serve researchers, practitioners and students seeking to deepen their understanding of Ayurveda’s evidence base and clinical applications.

Beyond books, AIIA launched “AyurVarta,” a dedicated talk show focused on Ayurveda. This digital format allows the Institute to reach a wider audience interested in learning about Ayurvedic treatments, lifestyle practices and research developments. The Institute also organised AYURPRABHA-2026, a six-day workshop specifically addressing Ayurveda’s application in dermatology and cosmetology, reflecting growing interest in Ayurvedic approaches to skin health and beauty treatments.

Community engagement

Alongside academic activities, AIIA organised practical healthcare services. A special eye-screening camp was conducted for students of an NTPC school, demonstrating how Ayurvedic institutions can provide preventive health services to communities, particularly younger populations who may otherwise lack access to regular health check-ups.

What this means for you

If you are interested in Ayurveda, these initiatives provide multiple entry points. The new talk show “AyurVarta” offers accessible information on Ayurvedic practices. If you study at or near AIIA, seminars and workshops may be open to participants seeking deeper knowledge. The published books serve students, practitioners and those researching Ayurvedic approaches to health conditions. For those in the vicinity of AIIA or partner institutions, periodic health camps and screening programmes may become available to the public.
