The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), under India’s Ministry of Ayush, has announced two initiatives to strengthen research in Ayurveda. The Chairperson of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine launched CCRAS SPARK 5.0, a studentship programme for undergraduates, and CCRAS Ayurshodh 2026, a national recognition programme for researchers, on 14 October 2026. These schemes aim to build research capacity and recognise scholarly work across the field.

Key facts

  • 300 studentships offered under CCRAS SPARK 5.0 for 2026-27, the fifth edition of the programme
  • Studentship amount: Rs 50,000 per student
  • Eligible students: BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) students in third, fourth or professional years from NCISM or Government of India-recognised colleges and universities
  • Application registration opens: 15 October 2026
  • Application deadline: 15 November 2026
  • CCRAS Ayurshodh 2026 finals scheduled: 11 December 2026
  • Prize money for CCRAS Ayurshodh sponsored by Shree Dhootapapeshwar Limited

CCRAS SPARK 5.0: Undergraduate research grants

CCRAS SPARK 5.0 is designed to introduce BAMS students to practical research methods and build interest in Ayurveda research as a career path. The programme funds short-term independent research projects that allow students to develop research methodology, analytical thinking and hands-on experience in scientific investigation. This is the fifth year of the studentship scheme, indicating its established role in Ayurveda education.

Eligible students must be enrolled in their third, fourth or professional year at NCISM-recognised or Government of India-recognised Ayurveda colleges or universities. Each selected student receives Rs 50,000 to conduct their research project. The scheme targets 300 students for the 2026-27 academic year. Interested students can register from 15 October 2026, with applications due by 15 November 2026. More details are available on the official SPARK portal.

CCRAS Ayurshodh: Recognition for researchers

CCRAS Ayurshodh is a national recognition platform for Ayurveda researchers, established to celebrate and incentivise scholarly work and innovation. The programme operates under three categories, each targeting different aspects of research contribution. The second circular for 2026 sets out the framework and prizes for each category.

CCRAS-Prabodh 3MT awards recognition through three-minute thesis presentations, allowing researchers to communicate their work concisely to a wider audience. CCRAS-Prakash honours scholarly achievements demonstrated through publications based on original research, rewarding quality contributions to Ayurveda literature. CCRAS-Navonmesha recognises innovation, including innovative prototypes, novel solutions, process innovations and transformative research methodologies that advance the field.

Prize money for all three categories is sponsored by Shree Dhootapapeshwar Limited, a major Ayurveda industry stakeholder. The national finals of CCRAS Ayurshodh are scheduled for 11 December 2026. More information and entry details are available on the official Ayurshodh website.

Purpose and expected impact

Both initiatives align with CCRAS and the Ministry of Ayush’s broader goal to strengthen Ayurveda as a research discipline. By providing financial support to undergraduates early in their careers, CCRAS SPARK 5.0 aims to create a pipeline of research-oriented professionals. By recognising published work, innovative solutions and effective communication, CCRAS Ayurshodh encourages higher standards of scholarship and promotes Ayurveda research to academic and professional communities.

Together, the schemes target emerging talent, promote quality research publications, encourage innovation and improve how Ayurveda research is communicated to wider audiences.

What this means for you

BAMS students in their later years of study now have a funded opportunity to conduct independent research while still in college, gaining practical experience and Rs 50,000 in financial support. Researchers and scholars working in Ayurveda have a recognised national platform to showcase their work, receive recognition and compete for prizes. The schemes also signal institutional commitment to Ayurveda as a research discipline, potentially strengthening its standing within India’s academic system.

What happens next

CCRAS SPARK 5.0 registration begins on 15 October 2026, with applications closing on 15 November 2026. CCRAS Ayurshodh 2026 finals will be held on 11 December 2026. Detailed guidelines and application portals are available on the official CCRAS SPARK and CCRAS Ayurshodh websites.
