The Department of Posts has begun its Special Campaign 6, running from October 2 to October 31, 2026, across its nationwide network of postal services. The campaign aims to institutionalise cleanliness practices, improve operational efficiency, reduce pending grievances, and modernise the customer experience at Post Offices. This follows the success of Special Campaign 5, which resolved a large number of public complaints and freed significant office space.

Key facts

  • Campaign period: October 2 to October 31, 2026
  • Target grievance resolution: 1,50,000 public grievances and 1,500 appeals
  • Cleanliness campaigns planned at 1,35,000 Post Office sites nationally
  • Special Campaign 5 results: resolved 1,00,000 grievances, freed 23,287 sq. ft. of office space, generated ₹1.02 crore from scrap disposal
  • N-Gen Post Offices being opened with modern facilities
  • SPA Post Offices undergoing renovation with uniform branding

What Special Campaign 6 covers

The Department of Posts has identified specific areas for improvement during this month-long drive. The main priorities include clearing the backlog of unresolved public grievances and appeals, conducting cleanliness drives at postal facilities across rural and urban areas, and improving the overall functioning of Post Offices through better record management and waste disposal practices. The campaign covers all categories of Post Offices, from small rural Branch Post Offices to larger urban centres.

The cleanliness and efficiency focus

Beyond physical cleaning of Post Office premises, the campaign emphasises clean processes, greater accountability and cultural change among postal staff. The Department is promoting the integration of cleanliness and efficiency into daily routines rather than treating them as occasional activities. This includes scientific management of electronic waste and responsible disposal of other materials. The approach recognises that customer satisfaction depends not only on clean physical spaces but also on streamlined procedures and professional service delivery.

Modernising Post Office buildings and services

As part of the campaign, the Department is upgrading Post Office buildings using a design manual developed with the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. Two types of modernised Post Offices are being created: N-Gen Post Offices feature contemporary interiors and exteriors designed to appeal to younger customers and reflect modern postal services. SPA Post Offices, which are existing facilities, are being renovated to improve their functionality and ensure consistent branding across the postal network. These upgrades aim to make Post Offices more accessible, user-friendly and relevant to contemporary needs.

Strengthening citizen engagement

Under the campaign, the Department is organising “Dak Chaupal” sessions to engage citizens and bring government services closer to communities. These outreach programmes focus on three areas: Digital India adoption, financial inclusion through postal services, and last-mile delivery of welfare programmes. Citizens are being informed about financial services available through Post Offices, including insurance products, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, payment banking services, e-commerce support and export services. The sessions also explain various government welfare schemes and how citizens can access their benefits through postal channels.

Building on previous success

Special Campaign 5, completed earlier, achieved significant results. The Department processed grievances at 1.30 lakh campaign sites, disposed of 1,00,000 public complaints, cleaned up its file records by removing 17,352 files and e-files, and freed 23,287 square feet of office space through decluttering. It also realised ₹1.02 crore through the sale of scrap and waste material. Special Campaign 6 builds on these foundations by seeking to make cleanliness, efficiency and citizen-centricity permanent features of postal operations rather than temporary drives.

What this means for you

Postal customers can expect faster grievance resolution, cleaner and better-maintained Post Office facilities, and improved customer service during October. If you have pending complaints or requests with India Post, this is an opportune time for resolution. Visitors to Post Offices may notice ongoing renovation work and cleanliness activities. Citizens living in rural areas can benefit from Dak Chaupal sessions by learning about financial services, government schemes and digital platforms available through postal networks.
