The Ministry of Railways has given approval for doubling the Chouk-Karjat railway section in Maharashtra. This 10.86 kilometre stretch on the Central Railway will receive an investment of ₹497 crore. The work forms part of broader efforts to increase the capacity of India’s railway network.
The Chouk-Karjat section is situated along the Panvel-Chouk-Karjat route, a corridor that handles both passenger trains and freight services. Currently, this stretch operates as a single line, creating limitations on how many trains can run and how much cargo can be transported.

- The doubled track will allow five additional passenger trains to operate in each direction every day once the work is finished.
