The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has opened Indore Metro Priority Corridor–2, a new section of the metro system in Madhya Pradesh. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal inaugurated the corridor in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav. The expansion brings the total operational metro network in Indore to 16 stations.
What has been opened
The newly opened phase covers approximately 11 kilometres and includes 11 stations. The route runs from Super Corridor-3 to Malviya Nagar Chauraha. This section cost an estimated ₹2,850 crore to build.
With this addition, Indore’s metro network now has 16 operational stations spanning about 17 kilometres. The cumulative cost of the entire project so far stands at approximately ₹4,370 crore.
Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Tokhan Sahu was present at the inauguration ceremony.
What this means for you
Residents of Indore now have access to a faster and more reliable way to travel across the city using metro rail instead of road transport. The expansion connects residential areas, commercial zones and employment centres, making commutes easier for workers and shoppers. By encouraging more people to use public transport rather than private vehicles, the metro should help reduce traffic jams, lower fuel consumption and decrease air pollution in the city.
